Quality
Why are your parts better?
All parts are tested upon arrival, so Rossmann avoids the decision of installing an imperfect part or delaying your repair.
There are services that order screens one at a time off eBay. The part will cost more, and that markup is passed on to you. If the part is bad, and they only have 1, they can’t fix your device. Or, they must hope you don’t notice the fault because they do not have many more.
The compatibility lie.
The disadvantage regarding “100% compatible” LCDs you find on eBay.
Many people inquire about repairing their own machines, with parts from eBay. eBay is an amazing resource for parts of all kinds if you are aware for what you are looking for. However, many people know just enough to get themselves into trouble. Suppliers take advantage of this.
The issue with buying compatible LCDs is that many suppliers are “compatible ignorant” and will ship improper and faulty merchandise. This model typically does not look as good, and occasionally requires physical modification of your computer to fit the screen. Often, the supplier does not advertise that they are sending you a compatible screen and they often make mistakes and send out incompatible models. Many call up after receiving an LP154WP2-TLC* instead of LP154WP2-TLA* for their Macbook Pro, or a B133W03 instead of a B133EW04 or B133EW07 for an A1278 Unibody.
The brand name and model # of the LCD I am putting in your machine is stated prior to install. The model I list is the actual model I insert, not a compatible model. Sometimes, the Rossmann Group website will not be updated after receiving a new shipment of parts, but the rules of quality service and superior merchandise will always apply.
The quality lie.
What’s so bad about these “Class A” LCDs that are dirt cheap? I thought Class A was a good thing?
Suppliers that receive 10,000-50,000 pieces per shipment don’t have the time nor the inclination to test everything. It’s easier and more economical to sell everything and deal with the bad ones as complaints occur. Even suppliers who do test have one person testing thousands per week, often using test equipment that does nothing more than turn on the light. Screen quality and performance remain untested.
The common problems missed with this type of faulty examination are:
- Physically larger screens which cause the computer frame or bezel to bulge.
- 1/4″ bars down the sides of the screen.
- Slightly washed out colors.
- Dead pixels, large smudges, poor backlights.
I get around this the old fashioned way, by taking the time to test each screen in an actual computer and examining the images to ensure quality and perfection. I don’t miss anything.
Furthermore, ordering from unknown suppliers can be time consuming and disappointing if you receive an inferior product. You order, wait a week, get the part and then have to send it back. This takes a week. It then takes a week for the supplier to send you another.
Why wait three weeks for something I can do in fifteen minutes!
I will always install:
- The same model LCD the manufacturer uses.
- A superior model to what Apple used, such as with Unibody Macbooks- a B133EW04 is a substantial improvement from the LP133WX2.
- A newer version/revision of the same model Apple uses, once the one in your machine is nowhere to be found.
I will never install:
- “Compatible” LCDs that are not the original model, or ones that exhibit clearly faults.
- Used, refurbished, or class B/C LCDs without your knowledge and permission and at a significant discount.
